Privacy Policy
LAST UPDATED: 4 JULY 2026Beacon helps you identify real-world places from videos and photos, save them as “spots”, and organize them into trips. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Beacon (“we”, “us”) is a service operated by Verino Service LC, a limited liability company organized in the United States (New Mexico).
1. Information we collect
Account information. If you create an account or use Sign in with Apple, we receive an email address (which may be an Apple private-relay address). This lets us back up your spots and trips and sync them across your devices. Using an account is optional — you can use Beacon as a guest, in which case your data stays on your device.
Media you submit for identification. When you share a photo or video (or its frames) to Beacon, those image frames are transmitted to our processing provider to identify the place. If the media contains embedded GPS location metadata, that location is included to improve accuracy. This media and location are used only to service your request and are not retained after processing.
Places you save. Spots and trips you save (names, cities, notes, a representative image, coordinates) are stored for you. As a guest they are stored on your device; with an account they are also stored in our backend so you can access them across devices.
Purchase information. If you subscribe to Beacon Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple. We (via our subscriptions provider) receive your subscription status to unlock features. We never receive your payment card details.
Technical data. We store a small amount of app state (e.g. free-tier usage count, onboarding status) to operate the App.
We do not track you across other apps or websites, and the App contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
2. How we use information
- To identify places from the media you submit.
- To save, back up, and sync your spots and trips.
- To provide and manage Beacon Pro subscriptions and the free-tier allowance.
- To operate, secure, and improve the App.
3. Service providers
We share the minimum data necessary with providers that operate the App on our behalf:
- Appwrite (backend) — stores your account, spots, and trips.
- Anthropic (Claude) — processes the submitted image frames and any embedded location to identify the place. Processing is transient; the media is not retained.
- Apple and RevenueCat — process and report subscription status.
Each provider processes data under its own terms and only as needed to deliver the service.
4. Data retention
Saved spots and trips are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Submitted media and its embedded location are not retained after identification. Guest data lives on your device until you uninstall the App.
5. Your rights and choices
- Access, correction, deletion. You can delete spots and trips in the App. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at Contact@use-beacon.com.
- Use without an account. You can use Beacon as a guest without providing an email.
- Depending on your location (e.g. EEA/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights, including access, portability, and objection. Contact us to exercise them.
6. Children
Beacon is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
7. Security
We use reputable providers and access controls so your saved data is accessible only to your account. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
8. International transfers
We are based in the United States and your information may be processed on servers located in the United States or elsewhere. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, in-app notice.
